Blood Pressure Monitors Wrist
Wrist blood pressure monitor readings higher than at the doctors?
I bought a wrist BP monitor and tried it out a few times. It always says mine is too high. Even after 30min lying down it said it was still a bit too high. I was at the doctor’s and they checked manually, and it was normal. It was at the arm and 140 (don’t remember the other numbers), on my wrist the lowest one was 149 and doctor said 140 on the arm was totally normal. Machine said 149 on wrist was bad. Is there a big difference?
A friend tried my wrist monitor, and his came up as normal, towards the raised end of the scale, he is a lot calmer than me though, and that seems a bit too high for him, too.
Ideas?
First issue. 149 isn’t really ‘normal’. Optimal BP is <120/80, regardless of age- this is always the target. The higher the BP, the greater the stroke risk. Second point, BP varies throughout the day- 140 and 149 is not really a significant variation. If your average reading was something like 120 and the machine was continually giving a reading of 150, then it might suggest that your BP monitor is faulty.
