I was a home based transcriptionist for 13 years. It enabled me to be available for my child — although not while working — you need to have good time management skills.
There is an online guide to choosing a medical transcription course of study on the website below. Learn the difference between getting a certificate and being “certified”. Big difference.
Equipment can be obtained new or used relatively cheaply. The rub is getting started because home based employers want experience. Most MTs have to start out on a hospital or doctor’s office.
